The National Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has labeled the maltreatment of children as a “substantial public health problem”. As recently as 2008 there were more than 700,000 referrals for investigation of child abuse and neglect involving nearly 500,000 children, just in California alone. These statistics are staggering and the first step in prevention is reporting the problem. All states have laws identifying Mandated Reports and require that they report child maltreatment. While what these professions are vary from state to state, they include teachers, health practitioners, childcare customers, clergy, and numerous other professions. Mandated Reporters have a vital responsibility to help protect our children. This training program is directed at all professions responsible for reporting child maltreatment and trains these individuals on their responsibilities under these state laws.
